Question
Practicing
Asked a question 2 months ago

I decided to spend the next couple of weeks on practicing rhythm changes. Any suggestions on solos I should have a look at for inspiration or transcriptions I need to do/check out? I'm looking for straight ahead bop stuff, mostly.

Where am I?

There are so many.  Maybe start with a listen to "The Eternal Triangle" from the the album "Sonny Side Up" with Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins & Sonny Stitt if you aren't familiar with it.  It's a classic.

Hey! Eternal Triangle by Sonny Stitt/Sonny Rollins, and also some Sonny Rollings on Oleo on Bag's Groove. I also like Trane on Oleo (Walkin' with the Miles Davis Quintett)...

Hank Mobley’s solo on Tenor Conclave, Bud Powell on bud’s bubble, all solos on Bud’s Wail, Johnny Griffin on Rhythm-a-ning and John Scofield on Wee etc...

Oh yeah, totally love that recording. Thanks for reminding me of it!
