Today I am practicing Solar..been on it nearly a week. Getting to the point where I've absorbed the melody and can improvise a bit. Hoping to post a video of my efforts soon. Starting to work on Detour Ahead and Have You Met Miss Jones next.

TranscribingSpecially for Mike Bryant who asked to see what I've been up to transcribing Solar by Miles Davis. Doing this has given me an insight into articulation and comping. Timing is rather approximate in places due to Miles laying back quite a bit..best to-lay along with the recording.

Introduce Yourself!I’m a bit late with this..I’m a guitarist. I teach (online since March 2020!) and used to perform a few times a month with various bands playing original music, jazz and Brazilian. Hope to get back into live performance, but who knows when!

TranscribingToday I am transcribing Miles Davis playing the head to Solar and maybe a bit of piano and bass along the way. Starting with a mostly reliable lead sheet and making corrections and adding detail as I go using the excellent Transcribe! software to get the detail. Once I have the notes I usually speed the tempo from 50% by 1% with each pass till I can play it at full speed.
Anyone here write every day? I’ve tried a few times to follow in Hermeto Pascoal’s footsteps. I find it hard to stick to the discipline..most tunes I’ve written have a long gestation.
